Built and consecrated in 2003, the church has attracted thousands of devotees from across India who has thronged the church to seek the Divine Graces of Jesus and to thank the Divine Mercy of Jesus for innumerable graces received. The Divine Mercy Church was consecrated on 29th June 2003, by Most Rev. Aruldas James, the “Archbishop of Madras” and the first Feast was celebrated on 18th April 2004.

The church became a reality due to the untiring and combined efforts of the Faithful of Anna Nagar, Rev Sr. Mary Theodore O.A.M. of “MITHRA”, Rev Fr. Michael Raj, SSP and the support of Society of St Paul, India. Rev. Fr Michael Raj, who pioneered the efforts, recalls that the entire planning, construction of the church and its dedication to the Divine Mercy were nothing less than a miracle.
